I can't decide if this is a fascinating activity for kids or just deeply strange.
Both. The kids will find it interesting, but going the whole hog, with cardinals' and pope's robes, hats, etc, indicates a willingness to spend money on unimportant things. They're in a Catholic elementary school, so the indoctrination aspect is already well under way.
Perhaps they could replace school captains and prefects with a school pope and cardinals moving forward, with the girls taking their appropriate place a nuns.
