Today I learned about the SS Daisy, an old British navy trawler whose rusting hulk now forms part of the Dartmouth shoreline along #Halifax Harbour near the MacDonald Bridge: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/mystery-ship-ss-daisy-halifax-harbour-dartmouth-newfoundland-1.3579257

The Wave at #Halifax Waterfront. Officially, you are not supposed to climb and slide down The Wave, but since so many people do it anyway there is a soft safety foam base surrounding The Wave. I am told it is also called The Danger Wave.

Today in extremely Canadian living, I just got some free health care and then bought a Tim Horton's Regular (i.e. coffee with one cream and one sugar; the double double is way too sweet for me) with a "Farmer's Wrap" which is just a breakfast wrap with an added hashbrown and spicy mayo.

Fascinating thing about #NovaScotia geology: Halifax sits atop what's called The Meguma Terrane, the remnants of a prehistoric subcontinent that used to be separate from North America: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meguma_terrane — Meguma is joined with the distinct northern Avalon Zone along a nearly horizontal fault line that you can trace from Cobequid to Canso. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meguma_terrane

I think one reason #Halifax roads seem so confusing and ill-planned is because (1) the geology of the place is lots of steep, jagged bedrock, expensive and difficult to blast and build straight-line infrastructure upon, and (2) the roadways were laid out at a time when they assumed most people would be out working on fishing boats anyway

I visited #Halifax Public Gardens and the Central Library, whose architecture evokes an impression of haphazardly stacked books. The cantilevered top floor has nice views of the Harbour — and is also home to the SF/Fantasy section.
