I really hate reading press releases from policing organizations. They waste a lot of words and say nothing.
Serious Incident Repose Team Investigating Death in Nova Scotia
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving the death of a male that occurred during an interaction with members of Halifax Regional Police (HRP).

Why were you at the dwelling? Was it a 911 call, or wellness check?
In distress? what the fuck does that mean? How do you go from "in distress" to "struggle"? That's a leap.
Also how the fuck aren't all police officers also trained as first responders? That's a pretty low bar wrt training.

Wow, if I read the previous presser first (my reader is sorted by newest) I would have learned that it was a wellness check/mental health check. Now he's dead.
Also, it wasn't first responders, it was EHS, the paramedics, that they called. While paramedics are ALSO first responders, they also have much more training than that.
Police should not be leading mental health services, they should be supporting social workers, or others trained to work WITH people, not subdue them.
