@ruralgloom At the fencing club, we were lucky to have some workshops run by an Olympian; it's wild to hear from someone at that kind of level, they just think about things in a way that never would occur to you.

I used to fence quite a bit, did okay, even went to lower level Nationals a few times. (Somebody has to place 68th out of 76.)

Nothing prepared me for my 30 seconds on strip against the reigning 16-and-under World Champion. I was a beer league softball player trying to hit a peak Nolan Ryan fastball.

We weren’t in the same universe and I still giggle a little when I think about it.
