This has been my concern, as well. Games *rarely* ship as a finished product anymore. All the disc is really good for is acting as a token for ownership.

Some of the Game of the Year editions used to have the full game on a disc, but even towards the end of that trend, companies just started packing the original disc with dlc codes.

I try to buy physical whenever possible because I know PlayStation will take my games at any moment. I need to make backups of my games.Even if there is actual data on the disk and not just a glorified license key it does not mean that you could do anything with these disks if Sony decides otherwise...
