    The first results from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) suggest that dark energy isn't a constant force in the Universe and might actually be decreasing over time. But this result would require new physics that runs counter to existing theories of cosmology. A new paper proposes that evolving dark matter - and not dark energy - could explain the same observations and provide an explanation that works better with existing theories.
