    Has history taught us nothing? Once the mad dictator makes a move for more lebensraum, you can no longer write your way to peace for our time.

      @randahl I hope the people of Greenland apply for a membership of EU.

        @randahl This is so embarrassing. It’s like writing a letter to the bully at school telling him that you and your nerdy friends think about him with deepest contempt.

          @jenselbaek the Greenlanders would have been in a much stronger position, had they kept their EU membership in 1985

            @randahl Let's first see Denmark get rid of that military base. What do you expect of Europe when even the most directly interested country does hardly anything more than talk?

              @cgudrian In Danish we say "they are crawling along the panels" instead of walking upright in the middle of the room.

                @randahl the wolf has tasted its first blood… it can only get worse from then on. Does the EU really think that appeasing to reason to such a wolf will make him come to his senses?

                  @edgeofeurope I disagree with your characterisation. For a nation of 6 million people, this is a considerable investment and not just "talk". There is a reason we have held military exercises in Greenland this summer.

In reality, Parliament is adding — 16 additional F-35 fighter jets. — two additional artic surveillance vessels — multiple patrol aircraft — multiple surveillance drones — a new headquarters for Arctic Command in Nuuk — A new internet sea cable between Greenland and Denmark. — two more dog sled patrol teams.

                    @randahl

                    FWIW, if Canada had got Chrystia Freedland as PM instead of Mark Carney, you'd have been more likely to see a meaningful gesture of solidarity out of Ottawa.
