The guns are the biggest problem but so is how easy it is to get kitted out like GI Joe in a mech suit.
Impersonation crimes keep happening and no one says anything about these aliexpress mail order combat dudes.

That's always been true, but there are also some laws on the book that make impersonating police a very serious crime.
However when the "police" are so vague and masked and won't identify themselves either this is inevitable.

@futurebird in most states it's also easy to get a "security" job that grants access to police databases. And many states make it easy to become a "bounty hunter" and get access that way. Then there's the nightmarishly bad security of police databases ... *sigh*
