You see this is why I think mass protest can be very educational. For many people who participated this isn't a shock. It's just how it works. But, a lot of people are finding out just how biased their media is today.
As they read a report on the single window broken not the thousands who were on the streets. People in LA are learning too.
Really I didn't understand just how biased media was until I first went to a protest or two.

@futurebird @dansinker The dissonance of reading, say, the NY Times while living in a city center out in the provinces (South of Market, San Francisco) fosters skepticism of national media reporting on things outside their expertise.
They don't seem to talk to enough local sources to get more than rumor, spin, and reflections of the biases of others.
Local news sources are so valuable. Mission Local (@MLNow) is excellent.

@joelvanderwerf @futurebird @dansinker @MLNow Whenever people from outside S.F. asked me about S.F. I always had to lead with “so the news just lies about us”

@kevinriggle @joelvanderwerf @futurebird @dansinker @MLNow when asked about San Francisco, I explain it to New Yorkers like "You know how NYC is portrayed in the news in other states and everyone thinks they're gonna get stabbed and robbed if they ride the subway? It's like that".
