This morning the astroturf in Cadman Plaza was full of children and adults wearing purple and yellow t-shirts with pro-charter-school slogans, all listening to—or ignoring—loudly amplified pro-charter speeches.

This morning the astroturf in Cadman Plaza was full of children and adults wearing purple and yellow t-shirts with pro-charter-school slogans, all listening to—or ignoring—loudly amplified pro-charter speeches.
Yellow and purple are Success Academy’s colors, and the organization was pushing this demo hard:
I was surprised, though, to see no apparent support from any other charters.
My impression was that the parents at the demo were overwhelmingly brown-skinned working class people who don’t want their kids in schools that have to admit, and can’t expel, “troublesome” kids. Kind of the working class equivalent of moving to a rich suburb, you might say.
