    Does anyone know the sound I'm trying to describe here... or is this just some strange thing that happened to me?

    "On a sunny spring day, nearly everyone in the school is outside. You can hear the noise from the playground, squeals, shouts, laughter and also the strange spidery echo the red textured kick balls in the narrow alleyway in back."

    (It's like the sound that The Bionic Man made when he jumped? Anyone know what I mean?)

      @futurebird and it's only kick-balls that make that sound, basketballs, soccer balls, et cetera sound completely different.

        @futurebird yes!!! Wow, didn't think I knew what you were talking about until you said Bionic Man. 😂

        There is a spot in some back lots by an abandoned loading dock that will make this kind of sound when walking by in certain weather.

        My friend who lives nearby is unable to hear it, so I think it's at the edge of most people's hearing. It's like a high, fast echo.

        In the winter on really cold, dry days my footstep sounds like a single high note receding.

            @ben

            That's the first part of it, but there is also the strange echo. Maybe one needed to have a school with a long concrete alleyway to encounter it.

                  @ReverendMoose @futurebird I always describe that sound as a "bah-doingggg".

                  I think it's something to do with the particular material those balls are made of - there are no layers or mass to damp out the oscillations of the plastic.

                  The sound also depends on the inflation level - once there is not enough air in the ball it's just a dull thud because the envelope is no longer a membrane.

                  Maybe I spent too much time thinking about this as a kid ...
