    I thought about stealing the compost from the trash room but realized one could get arrested for that. And being arrested would be bad, but how would I ever live that down if it happened?

    "Freedom"

    Anyways.

        Parents: I don't know about moving to NYC. Out here in the country we have a lot of freedom. We can burn the trash if we want.

        Me: ...
        Me: You have to burn the trash because there is no garbage pick up out in the middle of nowhere where you are, Mom. I put my trash in a little chute in the wall*.

        (*But you have to take the bottles down. And the compost... but I don't do that since I'm hoarding all the dirt for the roof garden I WANT BIOMASS...)

            @futurebird I get "free" fertilizer by the sackful from my family in the country with horses. Just gotta transport it yourself (with the windows down is advisable).

              @DaveMWilburn

              Yeah... I've been on one of THOSE rides.

              Robbing the compost isn't sounding so bad now.

                @futurebird the other fun bit is having to constantly weed it because horses aren't true ruminants, so some of the seeds still make their way through. Of course, that could also happen to inadequately fermented compost, too.

                  High quality soil. The "good dirt" is a rare thing, takes work to keep alive and can't be bought in stores.

                  I'd seriously consider grabbing the largest potted plant on the roof if there was a fire. (Provided my husband had the cat and the ants. )

                    @futurebird Starbucks used to give used coffee grounds to any who asked. Not sure if they still do.

                      The Community Garden Mob-- Group has all the coffee shops on a lock. And they will make things very inconvenient for you if you get in their way.

                          Once garbage is in a city container it belongs to the city.
