@gleick Reminder, you can easily and quickly mute and block trolls on this or any thread.
Don't feed the troll. That's what they are here for. Peace.
Yup. Reported and blocked. Scum like that deserves no attention. I suggest everyone else report him too.

@gleick They were obviously very aware that he was holding a phone. Too bad they probably have the phone now.
Something people should consider if filming these thugs is to livestream to YouTube or something that will capture video so it’s available for others to view & backup.

@gleick Unlike the murderous thug in the mask.

@ZenHeathen @gleick We don’t even know if that gun on a car seat photographed by CBP belonged to the victim.

@gleick This was a normal man, standing up against what he sees as a tyrannical government. The same type of government that is referenced to when debates are held about the 2nd amendment. This incident however shows that the 2nd amendment will never protect Americans. It's only going to be used as an excuse to act mire violently (2/2)

@gleick A kind reminder that during WW2, the deportations were not only organised by the Nazi's/German, but also by government police. The few little deeds that saved a small amount of people were later remembered as heroic. (1/2)

I can't prove it but I think they killed him because he made them feel small.
You know, by really doing all of those things we like to say "makes a man a real man"
Stepping up to protect smaller people from the bullies. With calm with honor. Like at his job. Never losing his cool while doing it.
It was an inverted mirror for these little wannabes in all of their mismatched gear looking like boys playing "army" ...
His presence set them off.

There are a lot of men who will say "I can't stand it when I see a man hit a woman." They will brag be proud of it. But, then there are the people who really feel this way. Who act accordingly. (often not the same people)
They can't stand to see a bully. A bunch gear-balls knocking people smaller than them over. And they respond. A controlled de-escalating response. To step in the way.
Hit me instead. I'm filming you. I'm calm. Leave them alone. A real hero.

When someone does something so needless and vicious, the simplest explanation that fits the facts is they wanted to do it.
ICE have been recruiting people who want to be cruel, who want to dominate and bully, and yes, want an excuse and an opportunity to kill.
Seeing one of their number get away with it and even be praised for it and shielded from consequences has emboldened some of them to look for opportunities with even thinner excuses to do the same.

My aunt used to tell my cousin who was, like everyone in our family, a huge nerd, but he was also physically huge. Taller than all of us. Just an imposing figure and a Black Man... she told him to be careful.
"Just seeing a man like you can make some of these cops angry. You need to understand that."
I guess it happens to white men too.
And this government tells them "don't worry, no consequence, express your inner emotions."

@futurebird
i think about their families too. what sort of families raise men this way? what are their families' and friends' social norms, what are their children and younger members learning in this. -

They get a smattering of "church values" and internalize that American Dream.
Then realize they are too poor, to ever touch even the hem of her skirts. So when some online "masculinity philosopher" says "you are beta, you need to become an alpha" that makes total sense. Why else are they failing so profoundly to live up to that image?
And maybe this new job at ICE will make them feel like a real man.
It won't.

@pwdebruyne @gleick The whole idea that the 2nd amendment is meant to protect against tyrants is a lie. America will not be whole until the Slave Patrol Amendment is gone.

@pwdebruyne @gleick The Dutch story isn't good either

TBH when a guy says "I can't stand it when I see a man hit a woman." it's a little red flag for me. The men I know who have said that have always tuned out to be people with little respect for women, or boundaries or... other people.
But maybe my experiences are skewed.
