Army ants can't see, many ants have poor eyesight. So, how do they know where you are? As a large vertebrate, the vibrations you make when you walk are like little earthquakes to the ants and they notice. They also notice your breath. They can detect CO2.

The CO2 thing is well established and easy to demonstrate. I made a video showing how pogos notice CO2 a few years back. #ants

I shouldn't have assumed everyone reading this is a "large vertebrate" that was very rude of me.
