There’s another shooting in Minneapolis this morning involving ICE.
-
@huntingdon @inthehands Bovino claimed that the person who killed Alex had 8 years experience, so lack of training is not really the issue here
Possibly with regard to one shooting. But the agency culture that enabled it, from Trump-Miller to Bovino and on down?

@huntingdon @inthehands I'm referring both to this shooting and Renee Good's shooting-- her killer had 10 years of experience. The "they need more training" narrative is entirely bullshit

I'm referring to the underlying culture that lets and encourages trained agents to shoot to kill in a civil policing context, with the expectation that there will be no consequences, not even an investigation.
Imagine how that affects everyone, including new ICE agents, who have little training or context, and existing agents, who were hired because they were prone to be racist and violent skinheads.

@huntingdon sure but literally all I'm talking about are the two people who actually committed murders in my city. I have no interest in a deeper discussion at this time

️ Twin Cities residents
️Citywide vigil, on every block
7:00pm tonight
There is no central gathering location, to prevent further ICE / DHS targeting. Vigil location is wherever you are.
Please contact your nearby neighbors now and spread the word. We want the whole city showing up. This has to end.

“There remains a vast gulf between Trump’s authoritarian aspirations on the one hand and the realities of a complex modern state and society on the other. Obscuring that distinction is an act of defeatism that only serves the regime.”
Thomas Zimmer (@tzimmer_history@mastodon.social)
I am taking down the paywall for this one, as I believe it remains relevant as a reflection on the limits of the authoritarian assault – and the need to push back against the idea that America is inevitably and irresistibly marching towards a Trump dictatorship. That. In the descent into authoritarianism, we are still very much in the “consolidating power” phase — and that phase can still fail. In fact, it looks a lot less successful now than it did 6 months ago.

Attached: 2 images @susankayequinn@wandering.shop Reminds me of this passage from Rebecca Solnit on doomerism: ❝I don’t know why so many people seem to think it’s their job to spread discouragement, but it seems to be a muddle about the relationship between facts and feelings. I keep saying I respect despair as an emotion, but not as an analysis.…Feelings deserve full respect as feelings, but all they inform you about is you.❞ Longer excerpt in the screenshots; full article here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jul/26/we-cant-afford-to-be-climate-doomers

Is there a donation account so that those who can afford it can at least support you financially? -

Oh.
My wife and her dad both knew Alex Pretti from the VA Hospital where he was a nurse. “Gentle and such a good listener.” -

Obviously I don't trust a word of the official narrative, but the official narrative always trashes what the family has to say about the victim, so it's nice (and also heartbreaking) to hear what people who don't have any incentive to misrepresent, whatsoever, have to say about the departed.

Thank you, Alex, for taking care of my father in law in his time of crisis. We remember you. We remember what you did for him, for all of us.
@inthehands Fuck… I am so so sorry.
