husband got tired of watching me struggle to measure sculptures with my old, faded ruler, so he bought me a set of digital calipers.
-
@moonrabbit Is there a regulation size?
@suearcher
i don't know!
-
@moonrabbit This is the Way

@sindarina
a Way of many increments
-
@suearcher
i don't know!
I don't think there can be. My fingers are tiny (thin) compared to most peoples, and no one's ever arrested me for it.
-
@Maker_of_Things
ooh! thank you, i didn't know that. i will!
how're you feeling today?
@moonrabbit
I am fine, keen to get more done on the house, but also being careful of my back.We have been out to buy more plaster, and some paint, and the bits to get Mum's TV aerial cable into her bedroom.
I have lots I could be doing, but also aware that at my age slowing down a bit is also wise.
-
@arisummerland
so much measure
@moonrabbit I learned of the existence of the Vernier last year and have a few different models for measuring things like plants and mushrooms toads and whatever I might run across in the wild! I do carry one in my bag for measuring small things.

@suearcher
mine are very long and thin (ehlers danlos) ... many have commented, but no you're right: never cautioned or anything. -

@moonrabbit I should get myself a pair of calipers, I've been meaning to but never get around to it.

@Maker_of_Things
balance is very important (and something i've yet to learn ... )it sounds like you've got plenty to keep you busy though. and that you're being very wise in not letting it all keep you busy at once!
will you put it on the market soon?

I would like to, but it will still be a while yet, too much stuff to get cleared out, as well as the repairs.I also need to find out how to sell a house, I've never done that before.
-
@moonrabbit You gotta measure the toe beans, I think it's the law.

@Maker_of_Things
are all the repairs essential, or are they they sorts of things that buyers would overlook anyway? (i know NOTHING about houses, but husband's father is a builder/restorer and they've sold lots and lots of houses, so husband knows things and says things ...)i wish you very much luck with it

@moonrabbit
Oh *heck* yeah! I so covet some nice digital callipers. I'd measure everything that moves slower than me.So now you know precisely *how* chonky your stuffed cat is! Yay!

Some things have to be done so that the house 'looks normal'.People can overlook the need for wiring and plumbing but can be very concerned about loose plasterboard on a ceiling, or lack of wallpaper or paint.
I am concentrating on repairing the ceilings after the roof replacement, then the rest of the plastering, and then I will need to install a proper handrail and spindles on the stairs.

@silvermoon82
i've used them properly (as in, for sculptures!) for the first time today and they're SO GOOD. so much faster than squinting at my ruler
