In this case, enforcing these rules might have saved a life. https://nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/12/08/nypd-finds-mysterious-corpse-in-car-with-illegal-tints-parked-at-a-hydrant-near-stationhouse

A man is found dead in a parked car in NYC. He was there for a *week* ... should not be possible in NYC given the strict parking rules.
However, parking rules are not enforced near police stations (something many communities have complained about) Police officers often illegally park their cars in those areas, so they are not policed.

Better check the cars around my local NYPD station. They are THE WORST about this. I once reported a car that was parked on the sidewalk AND blocking a hydrant at the same time (it was also on a tree bed and harming the tree)
They did nothing.
Then I call the FDNY and they moved the car. So... call FDNY if you see a blocked hydrant.
