Nowadays I can understand not releasing physical versions but Xbox has done so well with backwards compatibility it would be a shame if the next consoles didnt support discs and undo what they built.

And who sucks the most? Correct, those who don't copy an article (or at least its meaningful parts) in the body of the thread.

I feel the desire to grade sucking in a curve is part of the sucking. FWIW, I don't want people to copy/paste the body of the article when they share it, but I do want people to read the article before responding instead of reacting to an out of context headline. Which in turn would remove the need to use a crappy out of context quote in the headline to try to make people mad enough to click through. I don't know, I get the impression that we have plenty of suck to go around.

The thing with XBox ecosystem is that Game Pass has been so successful at conditioning players to get their games all digital, that physical sales are super low

          > but I do want people to read the article before responding And I don't want to go to some shitty site. I want people to provide an actual data, not just a link. No data? Well, that sucks, so here we are, discussing the clickbaiting title.

I'll admit I didn't and I still haven't read it all. However, right at the beginning it says that Square Enix isn't going to do physical either. The quote is the least ragebait part of it.

Well I havent bought a physical game since......idk halo 5 maybe? Gamepass wasnt a thing at that time and physical sales have been trending down for years before gamepass, but sure, lets say thats the sole cause.

No. Hell no. That's so bad. For one thing this was clearly written by a human and fairly decently so, as these things go. Assuming you want humans to do journalism instead of shitty corpos outsourcing it all to chatbots, it may help to engage with it as intended every now and then. For another thing, never assume anything you see on social media exists at all. It probably doesn't. At best it's a slice of it selected to get a rise out of you in one way or another. Yes, including here. Algorithms didn't come up with the notion that people react more to stuff that makes them angry. I'm not saying to touch grass, but... like, touch some astroturf at least. Find a human who has touched grass once and ask them about it. Don't live your life mediated by social media posts, what the hell. And if you're going to inhabit a semiotic ecosystem that exists primarily in the dregs of cyberdystopia at the very least put the work in of either understanding what's being thrown at you via the firehose of constant worldwide anger or... you know, not reacting to it. You really have no obligation to add to this crap. To be clear, I was going "we suck as a species" *before* I realized you're saying if someone doesn't plagiarize or summarize the content for you then you're not gonna read it but will still react to the version of it that pops into your head. I wasn't even considering that level of suck to be on purpose, let alone self-righteous. I'm gonna go not be on the Internet for a second.

If this article is any indication of the state of phsyical media, then I’d expect the next generation to simply not have it at all https://gbatemp.net/threads/new-fiscal-report-shows-that-physical-game-sales-only-made-up-3-of-playstations-revenue.675322/ Nintendo is already flirting with this with game carts that are just license keys to download the game.

The reality of the Game-Key Carts is that they are the response to the outrage of digital only games not being transferable or resold. With the license on the cart, you can resell "digital" games. There are reasons why devs do digital releases for things in the switch... it wont fit or it's too slow are some big ones. It's not just a new thing, when I bought Skyrim at launch on the PC it came with a disc... which did nothing but link my Steam account and download the game from there. That was way back in 2011, and damn I feel old now.

Are you a bot or maybe an unemployed philosopher? Your text is a pain to read. And I didn't get your point, if there is one. I just ask for **convenience**. For the article to be in the thread in the normal text form. **Copy-paste**, nothing else.

You're not wrong, it's just nuts no one has specifically worked on a method of transferring digital licenses, which seems crazy considering how long steam and such have been around. I know everyone hates Nfts but it's literally made for exactly this kind of thing, verifying and transferable ownership

But now, Microsoft can sell you more storage space, and you don't even own the actual game product. Consider Microsoft's evil intentions. Seriously, they said, "Hey, let's sell $70 games and make even more money by not having to put them on a disk." The customer loses again.
