I think it’s more about the fact that he’s a real estate developer.

@mfennvt @futurebird @robotistry @waitworry Yeah, Nixon removed the Johnson cleaning station.

It could be that in some happy future we write "Nearly everything that occurred during the Trump presidency was a disaster, except for the White House renovation."
Is it very likely? I give it a chance.
I also understand that he has not earned the trust to do this, so if people find it upsetting that is very reasonable.
(And I really do think that building was ugly and dysfunctional.)
@futurebird I recognise that I don't get a say since it's not my country, but I've been feeling the exact same way. Unless there's a tradition that presidents must never change the white house then I can't get animated about this.
Over here in Britain, there was a scandal about Boris Johnson redecorating No.10. I didn't like the man, but couldn't give a shit.
The real scandal, I guess, is that Johnson & Trump have taken money from donors to pay for it

@futurebird @mfennvt @robotistry @waitworry It wasn't just a plain old bidet, it was a full omnidirectional shower installed by pres. Lindon Johnson. Which led to a lot of puns in another thread, so I'm spreading the good word.

@futurebird @robotistry @waitworry Eh, maybe. I associate Bank Classical with _fascist_ Classical real hard, so that's got to be an influence. And they're definitely doing the Hitlerian version of Bank Classical in the renders, so.
@futurebird @robotistry @waitworry (honestly this is all just emotional reaction to the shitstorm we're in, really. in a less... psychotic... environment I'd maybe feel differently. But, well, here we are.

@futurebird @robotistry Depends upon how much asbestos has been released by the demolition, and how many lawsuits end up being filed.

I was going to say it seemed "too deeply stupid even for them" to have a cloud of razor dust next to your literal house... but then I remembered RFK is there and he probably thinks asbestos soothes the lungs or something.?
I suppose one should stay clear of the capital for a few years.

Someone 3D printed that little nazi trinket for him and he was showing it to everyone ... I think he's given up on it? I hope?

@futurebird @robotistry @waitworry I just saw him waving it around (again?) like... yesterday. But I didn't check to confirm it was fresh that day, maybe it was old.

I bet we could print something much more funny and get him to wave it around...

I think it’s more about the fact that he’s a real estate developer. The one thing that he actually knows is how to do is a real estate project: he has actual experience, knows the process end to end. It’s probably very comforting for him to work on something where he’s not out of his depth.
(for this reason the only thing I don’t worry about with this clown show is the white house construction)
I'm wondering about the destruction of the East Wing in relation to the office of the First Lady. Is part of the motivation to diminish the role of the First Lady? Where will future First Ladies (or First Gentlemen) have their office?

They can build one if they want? They still have a little budget and staff ... which I find kind of silly but I guess it makes sense.

I expect the new ballroom wing to be just as bad as what it replaced. In that sense it will be a continuation of the tradition of this kind of architecture.
But if we need to tear the wing down again we can.
@futurebird @robotistry @waitworry Have you *SEEN* Trump's designs? It's going to be much much much worse... Not just ugly, but ostentatious with gold plating on things and etc. It's going to be not just an eyesore, but physically painful to look at.

Trump Tower lobby is OK. It's very 80s and a bit too much gold, but he hired some good people and it still looks like this now. It didn't get run down over the years.
40 Wall St. is more ugly. But it is NOT the ugliest lobby on the block.
