    @nazokiyoubinbou @robotistry @waitworry

    Here is the lobby of "Trump Park Ave." It screams "this is rich people stuff"

    It's also kind of what the white house already looks like? Or the same kind of intention at least.

    In fact, what I see most from his projects is it's like what an LLM would spit out. Inoffensive, bland, fancy stuff ...

    I screams "faux riche", a canned and pathetic type of conspicuous consumption by rather grotesque people who are feeding their egos and power trips. UGLY!!!

      @Nochem @nazokiyoubinbou @robotistry @waitworry

      Then two thirds of the lobbies on Park Ave. are ugly... and so is the white house now.

      Which... I mean I kind of agree.

        @Nochem @nazokiyoubinbou @robotistry @waitworry

        I think what's bugging me is that it can seem like there are people who can recognize the ugliness of conspicuous wealth signaling when it's Trump... but if anyone else is doing it they don't notice.

        I don't think you or even most people on here are doing this, but the MSNBC hosts who have been crying all week about this live in the same street as the lobby I posted.

          Mar-a-Lago is ugly but show me a country club that isn't. Show me a single good looking country club.

          The whole concept calls for offensive ugliness. That is the architectural language of an "exclusive place" ... it can't feel welcoming. That is not the point.

          @nazokiyoubinbou @futurebird @robotistry @waitworry Dirty little secrets of the rich:

          1. Nearly all of them got that way through luck.
          2. They have no taste.
          3. They’re boring.
          4. They’re generally not as good as they think they are, partly because not even they know these secrets.

              Yeah... I have not enjoyed learning about how central this kind of... guy was to "the well connected" at all.

              This is what you did with it? All that wealth and power?

              You could have built a giant bronze ant statue for the people.

              You could have made a library.

              You could have hired the best expert in your favorite thing to teach you how to do it.

              Or even just lay on a pile of cash. I could even respect that a little.

                I don't know why this distinction between "mad dictator who is making everything gold and ugly" and "cookie cutter wealth signaling" matters to me.

                Both are bad.

                But also, it's not like there is any way that someone would think about what "the white house" would be if this were ... a different sort of country.

                Hey... architecture profs. ask your students to design a new white house.

                We SHOULD imagine what this house of the head of state would look like if this were a country that put the majority of people who live here first.

                Even if it's never built.

                  @admin

                  That was after they let him into the entertainment business. Something that never should have been done. And something that the people who green-lit and produced the Apprentice have never really owned.

                  He'd still be flopping around doing things with a few buildings otherwise.

                  @futurebird @admin I never watched the show (of course, I've never watched *any* "Reality TV" show, so) but decided that I actually needed to make myself watch it to understand how he was presented, what the character was a lot of folks voted for, but..

                  I can't find it streamable anywhere on any of the normal pirate sites, or find torrents. No copies of it to be found anywhere.

                  Which is odd... any other show that's ever aired I can find and stream but not that one.

                      I like the openness, but it's too pretty and "soaring over you" ... It seems like it should be the main government building of an island that is mostly a tax shelter.

                          I know about the not paying for it part. Where does the "cheap labor" come from. At least in NYC some of the contractors he stiffed did excellent work.

                          IIRC around the time of the “Top Secret Toilet Files” investigation, it was discovered that Mar A Largo was mainly staffed by undocumented immigrants on slave wages?

                            Trump has absolutely had some undocumented staff, but it was only a few people. The wages and benefits at Mar-a-largo are slightly higher than the local average for similar work.
