There is something about an empty train “not in service” passing at “minimum station speed” that is elegant, and grim.

@futurebird
Those trains are taking all the souls of recently dead people to the other side -

@futurebird i always wondered if these were funeral trains transporting rail workers to their final resting place; i don't know if that idea is charming or just grim

@futurebird there’s undoubtedly a secret line that splits off at City Hall.

The Hanshin line between Osaka and Kobe runs empty trains with the carriage lights turned off. It really has serious "train of the dead" vibes every time you see one. -

@futurebird I've experienced the opposite too, where I'm on the train passing through a lit but not yet opened station

@futurebird They have secret new yorkers on them who are invisible to you as well.
But when you board a train that passes through the secret versions of new york, you are invisible to those residents living there.
A multiverse of new yorks whose only connection to each other is the shared subway system

@futurebird I have to say, NYC subs are so ugly

It's really gone too far and it's not cute anymore. Especially without any graffiti to distract you from the grime. You see this is why I take the bus mostly... but yeah... it's faster.

Oh I've been there a few times. I wonder if the grand piano is still down there. That thing was a gothic MESS.

This is what keeps all that real-estate so damn valuable and everyone knows it. Every single person. But do we do anything about it?
*most mocking whining voice possible*

Those trains are taking all the souls of recently dead people to the other sideThese days, Charon wears a cap and hi-vis vest, demanding subway tickets instead of drachmas.
Good thing I always have a spare one-way ticket in my wallet, I guess…

So, hold up. I could ride a train to NYC.2 and there would be a city there but no people, yet, still ... there would be "people" so things would just move around and change as if the city was alive, but never when I was looking at them?
That sounds kind of awesome for a vacation!
And creepy. Gonna add a #backrooms tag because at this point I think I might as well.

@futurebird Only if you can figure out how to get off the train at one of those stations
