I think most Americans would like the first logo more, unfortunately. The projection in the UN logo is an unfamiliar one and I would not be shocked if Trump and his associates struggled to understand what it was. Or felt annoyed by how such a projection forces you to think for a moment.
The BOP logo runs to the other extreme. And this requires intentional not just incidental myopia.
My home country is acting like a jackass in more overt ways than ever.

The entire endeavour has strong "We don't need no UN, we got UN at home" vibes.
I haven't followed the news that closely over the weekend. But I don't see anybody taking it serious.
If anything, it's seen as a litmus test for European heads of state based on how they are wording their refusal.

Also to add, this is not an international or US organisation, it's owned by Trump personally. According to the BoP's own charter he is chairman in a personal capacity, he cannot be removed from BoP and he controls everything that happens in it. The membership fees go to an account he controls.
Even if he was removed from power in the US, he would still remain as head of BoP.
It's just another Trump scam.

@futurebird BOP's appears to be just a circle-cropped Mercator projection, where the "gridlines" don't actually correspond to anything. The "equator" appears to be more or less the VA-NC border.
