    There are 75,000 public school teachers in NYC. You can see the pay-scale here:

    Teacher salary schedule (2022–27)

    Teacher salary schedule (2022–27)

    favicon

    United Federation of Teachers (www.uft.org)

    It tops out at 150k But those are people with decades of experience. The average is half that at 75k meaning half make less about half make more than that.

    UPDATE: all the people at this levels are admin so it doesn't count. I was so excited that someone hacked the payscale so good 😞

    Anyone want to be mad about it?

    (I just realized this includes NYS so it's not NYC even.)

    @futurebird aren't all the top salaries the 'coaches'? At least that's my impression of US schools.

      @futurebird

      Nah, I'm good.

      Also... That sub-heading is nearly impossible for me to parse.

      ... Do... Do I need to see a doctor?

        That's US colleges. Public schools have everyone on the same payscale.

          @futurebird

          And why didn't they say $300K?

          What unit of measurement is an uppercase G?

          GRAND? Like... A medium Starbucks?

          I know we use the term in slang but...

          Seriously... I... I may need to see a doctor.

              @futurebird maybe they need a teacher to explain SI prefixes because there’s definitely nobody making $300,000,000,000/yr

                @futurebird@sauropods.win This made me curious about how that would look in context, compared to other wages in the area. Fortunately the NY Department of Labor publishes some handy statistics about it - https://dol.ny.gov/occupational-wages-0

                  That is what the union uses to argue for increases.

                    So there is a very good reason they look very similar.

                      @futurebird

                      What the hell does "64 on LI among 105" mean?

                      Is that a capital I or lower case of L after the capital L?

                      Is that an acronym that means something?

                        LI is "Long Island" it's this... long island next to NYC full of... people. Many are perfectly fine.

                        It wishes it could be a normal suburb of a city, but it's not. We have a RR that goes out there to pick them up and bring them in for their jobs.
