I love that! I've seen so much of the world, but not the world that is the US alas, outside of work visits and places like NY, SF on vacation@Natasha_Jay ~ Also, I worked on the ISpy museum in Wash DC and my first meeting there the receptionist asked if I had trouble with customs.
-
@Natasha_Jay ~ Gives one something to contemplate while driving those long desert miles. I always felt for those of us that are paranoid though.
@bmacDonald94
It's so big. I often wonder if it's better equated to Europe but with a single language. Culturally the UK is far closer to Europe though.A second lifetime? Well I might use it to explore the US and South America

@Natasha_Jay Nuh uh. Rainbow road is, by far, the most dangerous road in Mario Kart.

@Natasha_Jay New Mexico road naming committee chair person:
First, I would like to thank Jean for the chocolate covered cactus candy. Now, let's name some roads.

@Natasha_Jay There's ~300 different languages spoken in the US (including Native languages), and whole communities that predominantly speak something other than English. We have no OFFICIAL national language, but English is the 'de facto' national language, because all our founders spoke it, and it's the most widely spoken. Every community has to have at least SOME people who know it. US dialects of English (several) are mutually intelligible, but differences between accents can be confusing.

@Natasha_Jay The US has many states, but we tend to think of it in terms of over-lapping regions -- New England, Northeast, Deep South, Upper Midwest, Southwest, Pacific Northwest, West Coast, Gulf Coast, etc. Culture, cuisine, and vocabulary vary from place to place. And, increasingly, politics. There are entire states and regions I won't go to anymore, and might never again.

It's a regret. I've had a few times I might have lived and worked there, but life and family. But now the landscape as trans means I may never go there again . And that is really sad as I've lived extensively on three continents so far ... -

And that is really sad as I've lived extensively on three continents so far ...@Natasha_Jay There are trans-safe places in the US. I live in one (New England). But the catch is, to COME here, you must pass through our borders. And the people handling that are no longer trustworthy, and increasingly subject to increasingly harsh, often intentionally anti-trans policies. The US is not a trans-safe country to ENTER, even if you're going to trans-safe parts of it like mine.
But I would say this to ANYONE thinking of coming here. This is not a safe country for ANYONE to visit.

I used to travel to Santa Monica quarterly as my HQ was there. I remember those borders and it's intimidating enough in 'guy mode'. Now, no thanks for the exact reasons you say. It's sad, now is the time of life (older!) I'd like to see the US a bit more -

@Natasha_Jay Seriously? This is a real sign?
-
@Natasha_Jay ~ My time in Las Cruces and a smile every time this fortune came true.

Why don't they change the sign to say "Dust storms may NOT exist?" Seems like that would solve the problem.

Bonus, if you do ever get there, that intersection is really close to part of Petroglyph National Monument. Parking is not right off either Universe or Rainbow, but it's really close. And the petroglyphs are numerous and easy to see from the trails.
