      One of the services affected by the AWS outage is AWS customer support, which is darkly hilarious

        @jalefkowit

        This is a wonderful moment to suggest to management that they look into AWS alternatives "as we enter more unstable times" or whatever.

        I've been told getting of AWS is harder than quitting heroin ... but I'm told people do that too and live.

          @futurebird @jalefkowit have some AWS methadone suggestions lined up, I suppose.
          Side note: I've boycotted Amazon for nearly 20 years now so it's crazy annoying when a company I've gone to the effort of seeking out to buy direct from, then uses AWS or Amazon logistics. Their grip is insane.

            @Flisty @jalefkowit

            Few things are more heroic than getting your company off Amazon, either for office supplies (they love the centralized invoices but you will save money if you adapt and learn to shop again) or AWS ... which I know less about but I've seen it done.

              @futurebird @jalefkowit the Prime ads in the UK at the moment are mindboggling. One of them is a mum and daughter playing with a singing cactus toy that runs out of batteries. It shows their house and they live in an old terrace, which means they live within walking distance of shops. But they use Prime to same-day batteries. For a toy cactus. WTF.
              Tldr: I find the convenience argument incredibly grating. You'll be paying more and the driver who brings it will be getting screwed over too.

                I've been thinking about making some "how to shop" videos that teach how one can go to a store or even order things online but not on Amazon.

                It could also include tips such as "ask other people if they have the thing you need so you don't even need to buy it."

                At school I often just ask for whatever supplies I need and they are just sitting around somewhere on their way to the trash and someone gives them to me for free.
