@futurebird@sauropods.win i love the way cabbage browns
It gets so sweet. And not stinky like when it's boiled.

Obtain fat. I like to use "pre-cooked bacon" because you can use exactly one piece to control portions but sesame seed oil or tallow can work too.
Slice fresh cabbage, carrots, and any other vegetables, but mostly cabbage as if for coleslaw.
Heat up the fat and fry them. Add a drop of honey just before you get done browning them.
DONE!
I don't think olive oil or butter work as well as sesame seed oil, nut oils or a meat fat.

@futurebird I’m actually a fan of butter for sautéing cabbage. I like to include a little onion in the mix too.

I always struggle with butter I heat it up too much and you have to be less aggressive or the flavor is ruined.
The fats I've mentioned are more heat friendly.

@futurebird Yes, nothing tastes good when cooked with burned oils—butter or otherwise.

@futurebird I think that's a truism for cooking in general.

@futurebird I feel like I've heard clarifying butter makes it work better for stuff like this, but it's never seemed worth the effort to try.

This is a post about low effort vegetables for people who are not excited or in the mood for "healthy food"
I do get "high effort" some of the time with cooking. But more and more I'm looking for dead simple ways to eat vegetables that don't feel like . . . "salad time"

@hal_pomeranz @futurebird On the other hand, the kitchen smells delicious.

Every time I fry onions my husband is so impressed by the "delicious smell" ... and to be fair he has a point. But it really is just onions.
