There are some disturbing old historical photos of people who were tarred and feathered... which was a kind of humiliation and public torture that could kill a person. (Not as much fun and games as it's play in some stories)

I'd never seen them before so when I saw the photo I thought it was a generated image. Looked it up but it was real.

When I think an image is fake, but it's not it makes me think of the fake images I've probably missed.
