As a millennial I always got the impression that the Boomer generation (and I only speak generally, obviously) was planning on dragging every single thing they can into the grave when they finally go. The economy, the environment, our democracies etc.
Deprivation and salted earth is the punishment for my generation not being right-wing enough or buying into the neoliberal "grand plan".
I believe the Boomer generation is also referred to as the 'Me' generation, and in the West it was certainly a good time to be born.
Full employment, good pensions, health and social care, affordable housing, free education, historically low levels of wealth inequality and historically high levels of social mobility were common before the eighties.

I think my birth year (1997) has been slipped from one gen to another multiple times.I'm some sort of bonk wave generation.

(probably 'Generation ?')@torstentorsten @thordis This is a very USA-centric thing - in other parts of the world, everything is shifted by a few years, although increasingly less for the newer generations, since everyone started becoming much more online, and US mannerisms started poisoning the world faster.

@thordis who has that misconception?! Honestly, I'm surprised genX isn't a flat out majority. Mastodon is basically the internet we grew up with.

If you post something with a public setting it is visible to all servers (unless your server has blocked a particular server).
There are really important reasons why it's federated into lots of smaller servers: https://fedi.tips/why-is-the-fediverse-on-so-many-separate-servers

@thordis I'm on the cusp ("Xennial" is such an ugly word) and, apparently, there's some astrological reason why people from the year of my birth are actually more aligned with Gen Z. I'm also a child of cusp generation people raised by older parents than their cohort, so they didn't get socialized to their expected gen's values. So generational categories don't serve me well but I have a definite allegiance to one of the generations, the one I voted for.

Calling a server forkiverse can maybe be seen as misleading. It's still part of the fediverse.
