URGENT: Accessibility for disabled people is about to be removed from federal buildings —unless we act by MONDAY.
Taking action will require only three minutes of your time.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a "direct final rule" that would eliminate the long-standing requirement that new buildings constructed with federal funds must be accessible to people with disabilities.
They claim it’s “unnecessary” and “burdensome.” But here’s what eliminating this rule really means:
New federally funded buildings could be built without ramps, elevators, accessible bathrooms, or doors.
There would be no enforceable standards for accessibility in construction or major renovations.
It weakens the civil rights protections guaranteed by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

This rule will take effect July 15 unless the public pushes back. We have until Monday, June 16 to submit comments.

👉 Take a minute now and submit comments.

📧 You can Email your comments to: DOEGeneralCounsel@hq.doe.gov

Your email comment doesn’t need to be long. Just say why you oppose removing accessibility protections and why they matter to you or your community.

And/or you can use these forms from the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (which I suspect will also get you on their mailing list):

    ➡️ Public comment #1 https://nacdd.quorum.us/campaign/128333/

    ➡️ Public Comment #2 https://nacdd.quorum.us/campaign/128336/

Please speak up—and share this widely. We cannot let accessibility be rolled back without a fight.
    Thank you.
