I think it depends on what the space is for. If it's really a "home office" and you are trying to work then a room with a door is needed!
But, what I'm trying to make is more like a living-room... but with computers for everyone. Getting "distracted" by the other person and what they are doing is the point.
During COVID lock-down when I was teaching I went in the other room and closed the door.
