            @futurebird I think it is not so much a replacement as a different term

            A post that goes viral flares up into a huge spike of attention but just as quickly dies down again

            A post that goes mycelial keeps getting smaller spikes of attention over time as one person with a relatively isolated but well-connected network who hadn't seen it before discovers and shares it

                    @EricLawton @castanea_jo

                    Strands of a mycelial network may become isolated. They will not die, they will continue to spread: a separate network.

                    Provided they do not diverge too much from their host, should they reconnect again, the information carried along the mycelial threads will still be interpreted by the wider network. Momentous decisions, such as the start of production of fruiting bodies, will be made based on the totality of chemical information.
