In the papal conclave only cardinals under the age of 80 may vote. In theory any "Catholic man" could be selected as the new pope but they always choose a cardinal.
On the surface I like the "no old people voting" rule, but thinking on it more I do not think I like it. Obviously the whole "men only" thing makes it hard for me to take it seriously or respect it much.
But I am impressed by the durability of the institution. Something I've been thinking about a lot in the context of the book.
