Back in the 1980s we had rolling strikes in teaching.
Odd days, mornings and afternoons rather than going out on strike long term eg the crippling miners strike against Thatcher's govt.

@Godfrey642 @futurebird @Dave_Goldsmith @raven667 @Npars01 From a nursing standpoint, the rolling stuff does not seem to work. We are an independent union but the dominant large nurses union uses the 1 day strikes a lot.

For hospitals at least most can cancel electives and hold on for a day but open ended is much harder for them

To be fair its hard on everybody

Im not a fan of open ended strikes at all.
My husb and i were both teachers in the UK. We had 3 young children so losing multiple days earnings in a teachers strike had massive knock-on for us.
It's not sustainable for most workers.

I hear you and we struggle as well but in my direct experience (2 strikes 2000 56 days and 2022 5 days) it works and like you my wife is a nurse at the same facility so we get hit x2

We used to alternate days... it wasn't ideal by *any* means and being a scab on the days in was v v hard. Not bringing in money wasn't an option either.

Do you think the idea of a once a month general strike is Impractical or impossible? What about once a quarter?

I think strikes should have a demand, something reasonable but significant and they should last until it is met (and maybe spread to additional unions if the demand isn't met.)

What would be a good demand for a general strike?

This is a great list... for a party platform.

For a strike demand you want something that sounds modest. ONE thing. A simple thing. A thing that requires no legal subterfuge.

It's more important that the first demand is met to prove that the strike can work. Or that's how I think of this.

I will call "No Kings" a big success. Multiple outlets are reporting on millions of participants. It was bigger than the one in the summer.

A lot of people participating in something like this for the first time.

It was national and even a little international (Thank you London and Dublin)

No one can say the president or his regime has broad popular support or a mandate.

@futurebird I’ll call it a success when I see change as a result. Otherwise, feel-good exercises improve morale while oppression continues.
