@futurebird @tantramar addendum: having an "algorithm" makes it something different than social networking, I feel. It puts a thumb on the scale, undemocratizing it.
It's more of a social feeding trough, in that case.

@futurebird @tantramar I think anything that enables group chat should be considered social technology. Which includes multirecipient emails and mailing lists.
Social media would be when it can be accessed & consumed by uninvolved parties. Forums and such.
Social networking is when you have a timeline and follows/followers.
And some offerings blur the line. Other offerings turn it into a mutated social toxic waste dump.
