@futurebird yeah I suspect they don't have a permit, and I'm going to complain about them to the city council today. They're usually okay with voice complaints.

I went down to see what the hell it was doing, and they were sucking out by pipe some weird crumbly waste from the basement of one of the buildings in the alleyway.
I told them to tell their boss it's a problem because 200 people are trying to sleep in the building next door (ie our building!). Such are the trials of city living... It never occurs to these companies that people might be living with earshot of their middle-of-the-night noise.
