Yeah, exactly, that's what I was trying to convey. I'm not good under pressure, so I've spent most of the game opting to dodge, given it's much safer. What I like is that the "perfect dodge" notice is a subtle, helpful prompt that's basically saying "hey, if you'd tried to parry this attack rather than dodge, you'd have succeeded. Back yourself, bro."

Well, running PF1 put me off RPGs for nearly a decade because I hated that system so much, so probably.

@datarama @JeanieBurrell @futurebird I've heard leafcutter ant experts refer to the fungus as "an external digestive system". Also, I believe the fungi have speciated with their ants (as have the parasitic fungi that prey on the farms, as have the waxy bacteria that grow on the ants and provide antibiotics to control the parasites). It's an amazing coevolving little ecosystem

The only idea I even have for such a campaign is one where all the BBGs are dopplegangers of the party and the players are trying to defeat me, playing as their dopplegangers.

@OskarImKeller When we got married it was fun finding the books we had two of. There were a lot. We put a book plate in them and gave them as wedding favors.

Yeah, except my players were usually quite badass math people, so I get to use reasonably strong crypto (well, not proper crypto, but strong enough against manual attack) stuff for ratcheting. Often it was just OTP (when I'm being lazy). Then everyone just got annoyed with math arms race and we stopped using dice almost entirely.

Or they forgot who they were. But most of the time a persons life can be summarized by a couple of sentences.

Also really love this tool. I tend to make up a lot on the fly (or roll on tables) and the goblins notebook is quick to capture it all.

So were the original games that offered a challenge. Gosh. I wonder why the first three gens are still looked upon as the best versions of the game. It's a mystery.

+1 for Godbound. You play gods, so there is an assumption that it's high fantasy, but the one shots I've played so far had my players tackle interesting dilemmas and generally come away happy that this is not your typical DnD. The game has actual rules to change the world, rules to handle factions with their problems to solve and assets to use and generally what you have is a great sandbox to generate adventures and see what happens when you meddle in the affairs of men. I find it super light on the rules, despite being OSR, which is exactly how I like it.
