TBH when a guy says "I can't stand it when I see a man hit a woman." it's a little red flag for me. The men I know who have said that have always tuned out to be people with little respect for women, or boundaries or... other people.
But maybe my experiences are skewed.
@futurebird @gleick I think I know what you mean. It's the kind of statement that shows more concern for a gender hierarchy than for the general principle of nonviolence. (personally I can't stand when I see people hit each other in anger, period)

@futurebird @gleick same, tbh. Iāve heard it said in a way that implies āyou should be able to control women without violenceā and Iām like okay but maybe control and coercion is also violent and you donāt get a cookie for not actually hitting her

I can't prove it but I think they killed him because he made them feel small.
You know, by really doing all of those things we like to say "makes a man a real man"
Stepping up to protect smaller people from the bullies. With calm with honor. Like at his job. Never losing his cool while doing it.
It was an inverted mirror for these little wannabes in all of their mismatched gear looking like boys playing "army" ...
His presence set them off.
@futurebird @gleick This, 1,000,000%.

@futurebird @gleick I donāt think itās skewed. The men who say things like that mean they should be able to control ātheir womenā without hitting them. Itās about the perceived violence of striking rather than the real violence of control.

@futurebird I think you're exactly right. And I think it was the same with Jonathan Rossās murder of RenĆ©e Good. When she said, āThat's fine, dude, Iām not mad at you,ā it made him feel small. It showed him that she was brave and he was ineffectual. He couldn't bear it.

We are pain and what cures pain, both. We are the sweet cold water and the jar that pours. I want to hold you close like a lute, so that we can cry out with loving. Would you rather throw stones at a mirror? I am your mirror and here are the stones.
āRumi, probably

First Good, now Pretti. Pretti and Good.
It seems The Universe is trying to tell certain Americans something that is very clear to others⦠no matter how āgoodā you are at telling porky pies (lies) & manipulating images (such as a penguin leading a hated politician into an icy wilderness), their names - Pretti and Good - tell their truth.
