Meh. Not sure I agree. I get the sentiment, but garbage should be discarded.

We have to be able to learn from the garbage and why it was garbage.

killer queen black still pisses me off. It was still 100% playable without the servers (if you had people to play with), yet they killed *all* online functions entirely and delisted the game so you can't even buy it as a couch play game anymore.

Hitler was an artist. There are plenty of bad artists that shouldn't have work preserved.

the Holocaust could have been averted if Hitler was allowed to be an artist, even though he wasn't very good at it by the standards of his contemporaries. Art has value even if it is "bad".

70% seems super low, I'd say 100%. Given enough time, if the online component is not released or emulated, that portion of the game that requires it WILL die. It is inevitable.

Besides, some garbage can be turned into entertainment. AVGN and all the youtube poop using CD-i Zelda wouldn't be the same

I don't think you understand the scale of art that is created every minute of every day. Yes, art should be preserved when possible and shouldn't be intentionally destroyed. But not all art could even be preserved, it just isn't possible.

In the case of games, this is doubly problematic due to patches and updates. People can still play Fortnite and Overwatch today, but they can no longer play those games as they were in 2018. Anyone that never played previous versions can only read changelogs to get an idea of what changed and when.
