@futurebird @cstross Somewhat unrelated but this could be why we who are masking constantly are immune to this kind of thing: they look at the mask and always guess wrong. And so we know they are full of shit. Might not be so obvious if they keep guessing right, which is the case for most people.

@rayhindle There is some justification for that. They use clothing construction techniques that make their items last. My favorite shirt is 20 years old and basically like new — but I can’t have another like it because this kind of quality isn’t meant for women I guess.

The secret to writing (or playing) characters that are smarter than you are is that you can take your time coming up with what they do. Maybe in-game your character has a razor wit and would have a snappy comeback for any situation. Out of game you've got a list of pre-prepared retorts you can bust out as needed.
