    @futurebird @kevingranade No, I measured it and it was definitely a centimeter further away last year. I have proof, just no one will listen.

    The mayor from Jaws is there and refuses to close the hiking trails.

      @kevingranade

      I long for a monster movie where the monster is a glacier that stalks people...

      very slowly.

      Did it get closer? Or-- it is all in your mind?

      OH NO!

      @futurebird I do think the inextorability would be an interesting angle.

      Trapped in a valley over winter, frantically building defences against unexpected complication, but always coming back to the wall of ice creeping ever closer.

              A wall of ice thousands of years old, half a mile thick, and filled with hate will pursue you relentlessly, but very slowly to the ends of the earth.

                Then a climatic scene where at the last moment they get a ship ready and are going to escape... only to hear the groan and crash of the glacier cleaving off an iceberg to continue the chase.

                  @futurebird @kevingranade Key idea: a disaster on a sufficiently long timescale is the most dangerous because we literally can't make ourselves react?

                        Isn't all soil buried.

                        No, not like this. Not like these frozen fields and lost and forever sleeping seeds.

                        @futurebird I guess "fossil soil" and "palaeosol" are less disturbed.
