I sometimes do teaching that's more like a shop class than math. And there comes a time when you have told a student "you need to use masking tape to hold the pieces of your project in place before hot-gluing it, otherwise your joins won't be aligned." as many times as you can . The time has come to simply watch as they try to hot glue it while balancing it with their hands.
"The last piece won't fit!"

I'd rather watch a random 12 year old trying to stream a minecraft "let's play" with six viewers.
I have no desire to be at all emotionally invested in the personal drama of people without talent or interesting ideas.
And even for the latter my tolerance is rather low.
YET it's also a waste of my time. I have better things to think about. Most people do. And I think at some level they enjoy people caring?
You know like they were talented sport players or musicians or something.
You are pencil pushers. Managers. Bureaucrats. You are supposed to be working for the people and you suck at your job.
Anyway.
I'll joke about the drama with Trump and Musk a little because it brings a little levity to a heavy soul. However, I don't place any hopes on this being "a good thing" or even a "bad thing"... I'm so sick of the Reality TV-ification of politics and this is just part of it. We all need to follow these ugly boring men's lives and feelings and it's not interesting. And impossible to interpret because so much is performance.
I mean I don't doubt this is just as foolish and petty as it looks. YET
Good lord let us pray. Every time he speaks 1000 young voters give up on politics meaning anything.

I'm not a rare books person I read them. Since part of the bit about the ants is looped that one has to go... I'll leave the ones in the front since it's a neat detail about old books.
I bought an old copy of "Darwin's Journal of researches" aka "The Voyage of the Beagle" for a student as a graduation gift. (It was not that expensive! But it's a popular book with many copies)
When it arrives I discover many of the pages are looped. (Because I WAS going to read it again first before I gave it to them)
So... do I take a letter opener to these or let the kid do it?

That 18th century pot is super interesting. The Brits had just started with tea so the early teaware was Chinese in style. But that changes over time, but also because the tea exported to Europe and the US tasted better with milk and sugar or else sugar and lemon since it just wasn't as subtile as high quality tea sold inside of China.
So the brew-ware adds sugar and milk bowls and so on.
You may get the chance this summer

Maybe I need to go hard and make it really strange. Just lists of tasks marked complete or incomplete and totals of the ants involved.

I'm kind of struggling to write about this (fictional) ant colony. I think "they can't have a stream of consciousness" because that's just not how they think. It's all tiny individual impulses adding up to complexity.
Writing about individual ants is also hard because they don't see the whole picture.
I will figure this out, though.
