The whole bike thing kind of radicalized me because, coming from Ohio when I first moved to NYC and had the brand new 300 bike I bought on my very tight budget stolen (I used a lock like the one in the photo) I went to the police expecting they would be helpful and interested in the CRIME. They were so rude and mean about it I became totally self reliant. I do not need bike theft police. I am my own sheriff.
*cue western music*
NYPD laughs in the face of people who have their bike stolen. I've always said if they wanted to be better liked all they'd need to do is a few stings every year to catch prolific bike thieves but they can't be bothered and so those of us who bike live in the wild wild west.
Here is the simple rule of thumb for a lock job:
The cost of your bike locks should be at least HALF the value of your bike. If you can't muster that it's not locked up enough.
Of course there are various tamper-proof screws and hardware that are mandatory. If something can be removed with a tool it will be.

Both wheels and the frame must be locked. Location is important too.

I'm glad you got your bike back. But also if it's not a U lock it's not doing anything for a bike.
I used two U locks and my bike is old and frankly worth less than the locks.

I've been trying my best to avoid arguments that go anything like "if you, person who I don't always agree with*, but who I can generally work with would only 'message' differently, or be more or less polite, or anything like that... then the people who are trying to kill us would be less of a problem."

I don't know. I think that this was supposed to be the red meat to calm the people who want all the vaccines banned "give them something" as as far as things go it's not doing that much.
Whereas if you really do what the anti-vax crowd wants people will die, including people of wealth (or whatever it is we are calling them now)

What is even more funny is this just made the antivaxers even madder.
So what about an app where you have an open (crypto obviously) bidding marketplace to purchase various government officials and politicians? It can be confusing to navigate the current landscape! One guy wants his stuff in cash in a sack behind the bleachers, the next one wants a red envelope in a chips bag. Who can keep up?

Consider the famous "little black dress" which people always say is "so simple" when really it's not.
First, like with all clothing you need to have the fit right. The hemline must be right for your build and being off by more than two centimeters is a problem. You need to match your undergarments to the cut of the dress, shave, have lotion it's a whole elaborate production.
Pants are just easier. Or at least I think so.

Penny feather mentioned "modesty" in the original post, and on that I'm on the same wavelength. I don't like to show a lot of skin, so that's part of the attraction to "old man" style, it's always very covered and often more comfortable than it looks.
You don't need to worry about how you sit or if a bra strap is showing.
Women's fashion when it's "dressy" it's also like playing a dangerous game where you try to keep your underwear hidden from the world.

My husband calls my style various things:

"newise-core"
"tiny old man inspired"
I don't mind being comfortable, but I hate (for me) clothing that looks comfortable. I like timeless clothing items and if I could wear historic costume pieces all the time I would. As it is I "get away" with a few fun things.
I like clothing that's fitted and neat. Very tidy and somewhat gender neutral and/or "classic menswear" re-imagined to be cute.
I'm attracted to bowties and feel very bad about this.
