OK why are some liberals being weird and calling it "communism" I thought the CHIPS act was... fine. Like I wish it said something about mandated unions or something, but for what it's about it's fine. Isn't this trying to do the same thing in a kind of clumsy way?

Do any of you have a good source of financial news that isn't too right wing and explains things like the Intel deal? Or even just a really dry but not too technical source. The government bought a tenth of a company with left over CHIPS act money? But also Taiwan is in it too for some reason. I don't understand what they are even doing.

Can the government buy a tenth of my cousin's sticker etsy shop for national security? I'm confused.

I mean I guess she could say "why are you sending them? They are already here?" (well they just left I think)

Or she could just take over the operation herself. LOL.

When they try to pull this in NYC I fully expect Gov. hochul to yell at the city and say "you better be nice to the army you raggamuffins" or something like that. Then she will give a two hour lecture on how the NYPD can do no wrong and how much she loves putting armed guards in the subway.

(I really don't know what she will do, since she *already did this*)

Newsom tried to do something similar but he seemed less grounded and less convincing and I can't put my finger on why.

I guess Newsom seemed more interested in "fighting Trump" then how scary it is for the people of LA to have troops goose steeping all over the place snatching people.

Gov. Pritzker of Illinois has been doing a good job talking to residents of Chicago about the coming invasion. He hasn't spent time being defensive acting like this makes any sense or is about "crime" or trying to wrestle with the right wing framing of the event.

This just makes it seem totally illegitimate and unwanted by the people which it is.

I still want to know what happens if/when ICE defies the rule about not running around unidentified.

I don't have many charitable thoughts for Mr. Biden but I do think it would be a nice little thing for him to creep into a state funeral.

This is just the kind of thing that makes me so confused.

To be fair there was once a debate over if car manufacturers should be forced to provide seat belts. So you could have the "option" of using one.

Then there were laws saying you had to use them... but only in the front seat.

Then there were laws for kids only, and very strict laws about the construction of car seats for toddlers and babies.

All of these written in blood.

So a "debate" about something obvious isn't a new thing.

As I understand it talking spreads particles and is a problem.

I can also say that wearing a masks makes my lessons WORSE harder to hear, less clear, I don't like it.

So, I will put on a mask if I "feel sick" but not sick enough to stay home. But honestly I have no idea what I'm doing.

I like to think I'm a bit of a polymath but I'm balking at becoming an amateur expert of the effectiveness of vaccines.
