I think people think moderation is this kind of silly trivial thing but the way people get so upset and emotional about being banned or even getting a warning in the most pointless online spaces is amazing. Because it's social too. And people are social creatures. It matters to most people (even many bad actors) to feel like they are "part of" it all.

The more I look at the sheer heap of lies she said in the interview the more I think she's one of those people who lies so easily and often (instinctively) that this is really the best she could do. She did use some weasel phrases "I don't recall that happening" which is a way to lie about not knowing something without possible perjury.

But, yeah, she's a useless witness. I don't think she could be truthful if she wanted to.

This one just annoys me because you have multiple people one, unmotivated contradicting her.

But there are a ton more in that little screed of an interview.

I think the most consequential lie is when she said that she and Epstein did not recruit from mar a lago.

The president of the united states and the victim, Virginia both contradict her. I think Trump is truthful here because it would help him to lie like Maxwell but he did not. And I just believe Virginia. (Virginia also said she liked working a mar a lago) She also said Maxwell showed up there and recruited her. Trump said she was stolen.

Maxwell LIES.

Although normally I think going after someone based on their statements under this kind of temporary immunity is only done if they don't give the government what they want.

Though I wonder what the statue of limitations is on such things. I've been thinking about statue of limitations very often as of late.

My whole family is math people but my nephew is studying law. Sometimes I really like legal stuff. The definitions, the way you can fit things together.

If he's like the rest of us he'll be a holy terror in the courts.

When Maxwell, Epstein's accomplice gave her interview she was granted "queen for a day" immunity. Nonetheless she insisted she did nothing criminal and there are many *known* lies in what she said.

So technically she could be prosecuted for perjury for this.

@spiegelmama It is under warranty. Less than a year old. And I didn’t have anything on it thankfully.

The young introvert is all “too many people I’m panicking! oh no! will I perish?”

The experienced introvert is like “too many people. yup. panicking. What is new?”

I think hot weather and too many minecraft mods killed my laptop. (to what extent are software choices responsible for motherboards failing.)

Honestly? I don't think it's doing much of anything. I don't think it's a good way to address these issues at all because what is need is human moderation. Things like very *responsive* chat-lines and reporting tools.

When I go on someone else's computer or phone that doesn't have all of the ad blockers and filters that I use I'm shocked at the pit of trash I find myself in. The internet is hardly usable at all. Tech savvy, people, and people with some moderate disposable income have walled ourselvfs off from the pit.

And some people pretend like if people "were just more educated" they could install Debian or whatever and get out but it's not that simple.

It's not that simple at all.

The young people who are best equipped to be safe online are also those equipped to be safe offline. And, this is becoming an issue of class. Which is very depressing.

The less money you have the more your life is saturated with ads, full of compromises. To have some fun playing a game for a bit you risk getting a computer virus, identity theft or your kids could get exposed to professional creeps.

Roblox thrives because it's cheap and, for some, the only option.

I have this crazy notion that managing online spaces should be something kids do in school just like school newspapers and school bake sales. It would mean intentionally creating safe and fun opportunities for young people to learn about how to participate and manage this kind of communication. Just like with face to face communication.

Instead school newspapers are dying with many other extracurricular activities. Because it means investing in human intelligence.
