I find it interesting, from my own experience, that video games often are comprised of structured problem solving within clear boundaries and with explicitly stated goals: In many ways it closely resembles something we’d describe as work. Do a unit of work, get a point. Get enough points, you win. Only, the real world is nothing like that. In fact, it’s becoming increasingly less like that with corporate intermediaries and algorithms that are added on top of everything, e.g. empoyers’ Applicant Tracking Systems that automatically throws your job application in the trash because it didn’t include some keyword, or whatever. I think focusing on the dopamine kicks from the games’ rewards misses part of what make video games effective escapism from many alienated youths and adults. It’s the game themselves that are the escape.

B-b-but I was ASSURED by Lemmy that Nintendo was shooting themselves in the foot with their pricing and business practices. That they have lost everyones trust and will soon feel the sting of customer dissatisfaction. Or maybe it's just time to admit that Lemmy doesn't have it's hand on the pulse of society, but rather just its own dick.

Wow, I've been doing an Italian strike my entire working life apparently.

I've just finished a 2 hour session and I'm enjoying the game. There are a few things that are strange, but I'm slowly figuring things out. I'm getting more use to the inventory and crafting so it's not as frustrating as it was before.

They typically release 3-5 significant updates a year and have been doing so for several years now.

Fuck yeah Child of Eden was so much fun to play while tripping I would love a sequel

Tbh their old dlc practices were fine. Stellaris? Until relatively recently every dlc came with free updates and they all provided major changes to the gameplay. somewhere down the line the dlc became much less impactful, and that seems to be the case here as well.
