The reason people do not like “triangulation” is because it’s at root attempting to trick more people into liking you by hiding what you really stand for.

This article never says what exactly they support or want to do. It’s meandering and mealy mouthed which is exactly what everyone hates about Democrats. This sounds like a way to alienate the few people still working to support them at all?

Say you’ll expand medicaid. Cut taxes for the working class and stop giving payouts to the rich. Say you will build a bridge or something. Or say you’ll will *not* do those things.

  • Why in fictional romantic settings are couples always eating pasta?

    @TheBreadmonkey

I don’t think you want a real answer but I have one anyway. It goes back to a time when for “high society” white Americans Italian food was “exotic” and sort of fashionably ethnic and unexpected. So, going on a date to a fancy Italian restaurant was a little adventure to make the pulse race within acceptable parameters.

What a well traveled and fashionable fellow your date must be to take you to eat in THAT part of town.

“no one wears a suit on vacation”

Well I do. But I have my own thing going on. I’m so excited to wear all kinds of silly things this summer.

Why not a nice navy blue seersucker without stripes? just textured and a solid color? That would make a lovely summer jacket and be very cool if worn with short sleeves. (and no one needs to know you have on short sleeves) — but I never see options like this.

    Bwahahahaha!

That bait container is an ideal nest space and either the bait has lost its power, or (most likely) they bought the wrong kind for those ants so they just enjoyed the extra food. Talk about pounding plowshares into swords. I’m always so inspired by ants.

Really the first question one must ask is “why are the ants here?” and then “does it matter?” if it matters then eliminate the things that attract them.

Another solution is to give up on the suit and dress like someone from California. I can’t say I understand work dress from California— maybe someone could explain it?

The running fiction of this “style” is that you had on a jacket and tie but took them off— but it’s just a fiction that leaves all these guys looking half dressed.

The problem is that summer suit fabrics are all seen as too dandy and “on vacation” to wear to an office. So I understand the predicament. At least can it please not be a white shirt without a jacket?

And what is wrong with vests exactly?

I am very open to many ideas of fashion and even “anti-fashion” but I will always be critical of any mode of dress that manages to be high effort but low effect— fashion tendencies that don’t make the people sporting them happy or anyone who has to look at them. NYC is still very much a suit city. Even a three piece suit city in the fall and winter! but the imperative to have on a suit falls apart in the heat and formless expanses of dress shirts become all that is visible— it’s … it’s *frumpy*

It is spring: the balloon shirts are upon us. Men no longer wear suit jackets—they show up to work in tucked-in dress shirts, but no jackets, because it’s too warm.

However, since shirt stays, have been long been forgotten. As the day wears on, the tucked shirt billows outward, producing a silhouette not unlike a morel mushroom.

We will know no peace until weather grows colder and jackets return, or it becomes so hot that everyone is driven to short sleeves. Pray for us.

LLMs are so good at cleaning up speech to text. If you have not tried this application you should. I think it’s the one place where this dubious tech really feels “revolutionary” —But, to mitigate my guilt over the cavalier way most cloud models are trained I want to embark on a journey of training my own model for this purpose: curate the training data, run it locally. Then I want to enjoy dictation that can pick up it is “ant” not “aunt” from context. “trophallaxis” not “trophies lacking” etc.

When you consider mathematics, the ecosystem of textbooks has evolved over hundreds of years. Math textbooks are what I would call mature documents.

Computer science is only just beginning that journey, and we have a lot of ground to cover—especially when it comes to identifying the most effective instructional methods and the best ways to contain and convey core concepts. That’s precisely why this kind of work is so important.

Maybe because I'm a woman and teacher it's all different but I almost never shake anyone's hand.

Not parents. Not students (whut? lol?) ... the only time it happens is when I meet my husband's business friends. It's an odd cultural pocket thing and very disorienting.

I mean this is kind of obviously true. Just stopping people on the streets is a boneheaded way to get people to come to your church.

I would sincerely love it if they went to some NYC churches as I think it might make their heads spin a little. They could go to Abyssinian in Harlem or All Souls on the Upper East, or even right to Trinity.

They are acting like they are visiting the got damn moon.

They can't really door-knock in the Bronx as the doormen and supers would never let them in the halls.

So they wander around and try to talk to you coming out of the subway.

But this happened 4 times this week and that's more than ever before.

Worse they don't speak Spanish and are in the SB which is so low effort. But maybe it's for the best. Just means they come at me more since I'm not audacious enough to pretend I can't understand them. (which lots of people do)

They are always wandering around in the South Bronx like white tourists used to when this place was burned out. But, I haven't seen those kinds of tourists for 20 years and the Mormons keep coming.
