Many schools will have a "resource room" this is staffed by people with education in things like autism but also learning disabilities, and really anything that might making going to school harder.

If you want help from the resource room you need a diagnosis. This means families go and get them. That help could mean meeting with someone once a week who helps with planning and organization.

That help could mean the resource room gives me advice about my teaching. 3/

So, I have always thought this was a change in how we choose to support students, how we allocate resources. But, for some people? No. What they see is a rising epidemic.

This is not good. It's not good because it's not real.

Because while it is true that when I started teaching I didn't have a single student diagnosed with autism it's also true that I had students who probably would be today. And this could have helped them I think. Mostly socially.

I've been teaching for a long time and I'm pretty good at it, not to brag or anything. Over my career I have watched autism and learning disabilities (which aren't the same thing) become more discussed, in some cases better addressed and in other cases become more of a source of alarm among my colleges, parents, and education press.

What I have not seen in nearly two decades is any change at all in "how the children are"

Really, what someone should look into is those of you who don't think about ants enough. That's the thing that needs to be investigated.

Possible. I guess it just all feels very cold war and stale to me. Like are we still even on this? I guess so. Nothing ever dies.

Hi. Do you think it could be possible that there could be a sweater pattern like this but it had, in place of the moths perhaps some ... ants? Do you think that is a project that one could plan out and then you'd have a sweater and there would be ants on it and it'd be cute like this one but even cuter because of the ants?

    "Bad things are bad."

    I'm not moving on that.

But I guess we can think about "how do you best learn from bad things happening?"

That is one of many things that are at play. But I think it's reductive to say he is a Putin puppet.

It strains my credulity. I wish Democrats hadn't leaned into this so much. He's self-interest driven without a drop of public service in his being. If that leads him to align with Putin he has no moral fiber to be strained by bending in such ways.

As long as he gets bigger, the people who criticize him get hurt and the money flows.

You know I really hate accelerationists. I'm talking about the kind of people who think "it might be a good thing if bad things happen since then people will wake up."

Too often I've seen bad things happen and people are only easier to manipulate in their distress. They don't "wake up" ... they only become more frightened.

But, out of helplessness I have so many intrusive accelerationist thoughts.

    The roof is on fire.

And the people focused on proving we are seeing fascism have done an excellent job. They even have charts!

And this simply fails to land. I suspect to some people it just sounds hysterical. Just "liberals and Democrats" making any noises they can to win. Just more "political division" ... "on both sides"

Even though much of this talk isn't coming from Democrats at all. It isn't partisan. It's not about Blue vs. Red.

Some of you will point out this is a typical features of fascism and you will be correct. But I have not done this because I'm exhausted with naming the reasons why we are seeing fascism as some transference error seems to prevent a large number of people from understanding why this is a bad thing at all.

It can feel like some people feel that if they could only "prove it's fascism" that would shock other people into recognition of what is happening.

For all the "raw honestly" of saying "I don't love my enemy" it feels hollow when you can't even name him.

It makes me think of the ominous declaration that "Antifa" is a terrorist organization. Absurd as antifa isn't an organization. It doesn't exist.

We are watching a man shadowboxing. There is no "other side" none that can be named and this is something Trump needs desperately to function.

I've been mostly ignoring the Kirk memorial jamboree. It's not for me. I don't know who it's for, I don't see how my opinions on it should matter.

But something the president said caught my attention. It was one of those jokes where he give the people a taste of authenticity by being openly horrible.

“That’s where I disagreed with Charlie,” Trump said. “I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them. I’m sorry.”

    Who is this "opponent" ?

Now I'm thinking of a horror scifi. The machine projects another person's mind on to you but the result is that you just basically become that person and it takes years to recover. Since the only way to really bridge that gap would be to erase yourself.

So the mad scientist who just wants to be understood ends up turning everyone into someone who is, like her, tortured by a sense of isolation.

OK I've clearly gone on a tangent and I should be working on the book now anyways.

If there were a technology that would allow one to experience the thoughts of another person I wonder what we'd learn from those experiences?

Let's say you could produce a rough map of the state of a nervous system (not just the brain, thinking is a function of the whole body I suspect) and somehow transmit and remap it to another person. So you would feel and think for a moment some analog of another mind. Would it be Beautiful? Alienating?

Or is such a mapping impossible?
