@Kimberley I was painfully bad at social interactions when I was a grad student. Didn't learn people's names I just focused on solving problems and learning more math. Going to lectures, taking classes, getting good grades. I thought that if I just worked really hard I would naturally be recognized and move to the next step. This is naive and not how it works. WHO do you want to work with? You need to get in their face and show you exist. I think I could do it now with what I have learned.

@futurebird It's interesting the effect on my mental health since dropping all social media except the Fediverse. No alg trying to keep me angry to make me stay logged in longer. Fascinating, cause I'm still scrolling a huge amount of time... it's just not filled with every angering post it can find.

@sarahtaber This video was excellent and helped to put things in perspective. I think you are right to be wary of any claim that something difficult like "rehab" would somehow get better on a farm. And there is a lot of work to be done to better protect and support people who work on farms.
