Given the country and the setting those are red wood ants. They have massive colonies that are often a huge pile of pine needles and other debris put over a dead tree stump. It could be 4' tall. They using their massive nests to survive the winters.

I don't know why they have a highway. Maybe they are moving because their nest was disturbed? Or could it be a great food source? Did you find out where they were going or coming from?

Especially with international issues. If you know about these things this is a moment where simply explaining the basics some of the time when you bring up the topic can have a massive impact.

I've had an above average level of education and I like school so it's worse for most people.

Mention a name? Who is that? Mention a state or organization? Who are they?

Adding more background to your posts can really expand the number of people who can engage with the topic.

Of course it's also good if you are simply helpful when asked dead simple questions. Eg. "Who is Maxwell?" or "What is a primary?"

But most of the time people WILL NOT ask.

It's not just Americans either. When you write about a political topic you know a lot about if you find that people aren't engaging or feel like no one cares it could be because they have no idea what you are talking about.

Nearly everything I know about international politics I've had to learn independently, very little was taught in school or formal settings. For some people their only sources are movies, church and internet rumors.

Yes. People were so gobsmacked he did such a boneheaded thing I think not many people noticed WHY he did it. He wanted to make bikes seem dangerous and get them banned on the loop or some nonsense.

Things people have done to stop biking in NYC:

1. Staged an accident with a dead bear in Central Park
2. Literal BRIBES (maybe not in chips bags, but this cannot be ruled out given other events)

Zohran is doing a scavenger hunt (all public transit) tomorrow at 2pm based on "NYC History" I can't go but is anyone going to be posting about it here I'm curious what the clues are.

Also dude has found a great way to find more volunteers with this. People who know how to get around the city are what you need. It's pretty smart.
